On April 14,1912 the RMS Titanic departed from Southampton, England to journey across the Atlantic Ocean to New York City. Late at night on April 14, the Titanic struck an iceberg and began to sink. At about 2:45 am on April 15 it was completely submerged in water even though it was supposed to be an unsinkable ship. There were 2,228 people onboard. There were only enough lifeboats to hold 1,178 people. Only 705 passengers survived.
We will be reading the story of the Titanic in English 2. Before reading the story, you will complete this webquest in order to build background knowledge about the ship, the passengers, and the tragic event that led to this historic story.
